Fisker is not another Solyndra ... yet

CNN Money -- When Fisker Automotive announced it was laying off about two dozen workers at its Delaware factory, comparisons arose to Solyndra, the solar cell manufacturer that went bankrupt despite billions of dollars in U.S. government help.

Yes, the California based electric car maker and Solyndra both got a lot of government assistance, but analysts say those comparisons are unfair and premature.

The DOE had agreed to lend Fisker $529 million, and the carmaker had gotten $193 million of that before funding was cut off in May.

The company said it was cut off because it failed to meet production milestones for the Karma, a luxurious "range extended electric car," similar in nature to the less opulent Chevrolet Volt. But production is now underway and the Karma is on sale with prices starting ...

More tax payer dollars continue to be wasted. We never learn because we are beholden to the concept of a 'green' utopia that will not come this way. We cannot force success for these companies.

If there is a viable breakthrough, then market demand will support it. The tax payer should not be forced to gamble until one of these 'projects' succeeds.

Let's hope for our sakes it won't be. Too expensive for the average Joe, even the "more affordable" Nina.

"for the Karma, a luxurious range extended electric car,"

That tells you all you need to know. Luxurious as in 'not for you'. For a bunch of eco-guilted people with more money than common sense. The kind that George Carlin talked about in his routine about 'saving the planet'.

Its already worse then Solyndra! Why is the DOE loaning money to a foreign company in the first place?! Secondly, where did the DOE get the authority to loan Tax Payer money in the first place? The DOE was illegally created during the Carter Administration and needs to be defunded and closed!

Necessity is the Mother of invention.

We farmers know that when you help a chick to hatch by helping to pick the cracking egg shell loose, the new chick does not gain enough strength to live!

Same with too much government money at the beginning! Farmers all could have predicted Solyndra's collapse!

Maybe not! Not all modern farmers are real farmers!

A car company for the few who can afford their products, but not the masses. The only up-side is that the technology they dEVelop may help other companies who want to try their hand in the EV business.
