That is BS. They are just looking for money from the Federal government to upgrade their infrastructure which is something that they should have done 20 years ago.

These companies should be held to the fire, same as electric companies are.

Increasingly placing all the eggs in one basket! Then, if the S*$& hits the fan; then what. No strategic redundancy built in; just being dismantled! Dumb!

I'm sure this will be used as an excuse to continue raising gasoline prices at the pumps.

We said, suzmar: "They are probably closing because the government has made it too onerous to continue operating them. When businesses can't make a profit they close facilities. Unlike the government they can't operate at a deficit."

So how many new refineries are in the works to replace these ones to be closed? After all the USA is desperately short of refinery capacity.

Right, pipelines will be found that will bring gasoline into the east coast - So where could they be hiding?
Or maybe they expect they will be built, like the Keystone pipeline.
When will this administration stop tryint to mislead everybody - including the public?

Normally high prices are caused by demand exceeding supply, if you shut down refineries and demand picks up prices will increase more

Maybe it's time to shutter Sunoco. If they can't keep the refineries open then maybe they should be forced out of the business.

There should be more refineries in the country, then we would not have to depend on the few we now rely on.

Call this what it is: manipulation of the market by big oil. Refineries need to be built not shut down, even for maintenance. This will show the volatility of the markets.

The closures will disrupt the supply chain, but not effect prices? Doesn't make sense to me.

Why can't the Keystone XL pipeline be built to these refineries, and then export much of the refined products? I don't understand why that can't be done. And as for the sad fact of these refineries being closed... the owners want to sell them and can find no buyers. No buyers? Money pit?

So instead of the oil companies building more refiners, now Sunoco wants to 3 of its refiners and if there are no takers, close the plan. Another one against the consumer.
